What is your role at Shaker?
While I got my start as a Typesetter, my duties now require me to split my energies, somewhat evenly, between Typesetting and Proofreading.

Why did you decide to work at Shaker?
During the time that I was looking for a job, I had seen that there was a position open at Shaker, then known as Shaker Advertising. To be honest, I was intimidated by what I saw in terms of the position requirements, and, setting that newspaper aside, I decided to look elsewhere. Fortunately, my Sister was helping me in my job search, and especially with my resume. She saw the discarded newspaper with the open position information, and, without my knowledge, sent the resume to Shaker’s Human Resources Department. Much to my astonishment, I got an invitation to come in for an interview. The rest, as they say, is history.

What is the working environment like at Shaker?
When I first entered Shaker, the atmosphere was positively invigorating, happy, upbeat, and welcoming. But what I found most striking was how at home I felt (and still feel) here. Yes, the work is challenging but everyone has always been helpful (and quite patient).  Even given the strains and stress of a demanding business, the Shaker environment is still one of teamwork, camaraderie, and optimism.

What qualities describe your colleagues?
They are diverse, in terms of age, gender, and background; mentally sharp, professional, and knowledgeable concerning their various fields of expertise. They know their stuff, and they are quite adept at coping with phenomenal pressure and tight deadlines.

What do you find most rewarding about your career at Shaker?
It’s honorable work.  I feel that I’ve found a position that I can competently fill; a job that I can do reasonably well; and a work home where I feel accepted, at ease, and professionally fulfilled.
