Wausau Paper Corp., based in Mosinee, said recently that it will permanently shut down one of the two paper machines at its specialty products mill in Jay, Maine, resulting in the elimination of about 150 of the mill's 235 jobs. The layoffs will occur in response to "dramatically increased input costs and difficult market conditions," the company said in a press release. The paper machine, with a capacity of 40,000 tons annually, serves the release liner market and a variety of smaller markets. Wausau Paper, with revenue of $1.2 billion in fiscal 2007, produces and markets fine printing and writing papers, technical specialty papers, and towel and tissue products.
