Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics said it will lay off 56 workers at its Woodcliff Lake office. The company reported the planned layoffs to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development in line with state law and the federal WARN Act., which requires companies to give workers 60 days' notice of a layoff in some circumstances. The 56 layoffs at the U.S. headquarters of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics will begin some time soon, state records show. The layoffs will continue into 2009, according to the company, which supplies transportation and logistical services to the automotive, agricultural and construction equipment industries. The company, in its letter to the state, said the layoffs were prompted by "restructuring" and will affect employees in several departments, including 12 customer care representatives. A spokesman for Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics said the layoffs resulted from global review of the company's business costs and practices.
