As a part of Wachovia Corp.'s plans to layoff thousands of workers across its footprint, the Charlotte-based company plans to cut100 positions in the Birmingham-Hoover market. Wachovia announced to its employees recently that it will no longer process consumer-related loans at its Homewood facility and thereby eliminated the positions, said a Wachovia spokeswoman. Consumer loans, such as home equity lines of credit, will still be offered by Wachovia in the Birmingham area, she said.
