Citing "continued deterioration of business conditions," Spancrete officials have announced the company expects to lay off about 125 workers in its pre-cast concrete plant. About 30 employees have been laid off recently. In a letter to the state Department of Workforce Development, the manager of employee relations said projects scheduled for production had been canceled or delayed. He cited delays of certain developers in obtaining suitable financing to proceed with residential condominiums and other projects, appear to have been made much worse by the crisis of the financial markets recently.
