Parker Hannifin Corp. has laid off 52 employees at its McCook, Neb., industrial rubber hose plant because demands for its products are down. The plant's human resources manager says the company tried to avoid layoffs, but demand, especially in construction, remained too low. After the layoffs, about 200 people remain employed at the plant. All the employees who lost their jobs will receive insurance for 90 days and be eligible for unemployment. They'll also be the first people called back if the plant increases production.
