An Ohio paper manufacturer has sold part of its business to a NY paper maker, a move that a union official says will cut 200 jobs. CEO Tom O'Connor Jr. of Mohawk Fine Papers Inc. said his Cohoes, NY, company acquired brands of premium uncoated paper made by SMART Papers, based in Hamilton. A Smart Papers said the company would idle two paper machines but did not mention layoffs. United Steelworkers Local 1967 President Rick Farley said salaried workers & union officials were notified Monday of the layoffs, expected to begin May 1.
