Weeks after the Weyerhaeuser Co. containerboard mill in Valliant was sold to International Paper Co., one of the plant's three paper machines is being indefinitely shut down. The No. 3 machine will cease operations soon, impacting about 60 jobs, the company said. The plant employs 350 production workers, along with about 150 support personnel and contract workers, according to published information. A department connected to the No. 3 machine will also be impacted, company reports said. The company decided to shut down the machine to limit its exposure to high fiber and other input costs, officials said in a statement. Affected employees will be provided severance and outplacement assistance, although how much employees will receive is still being determined.
