Nearly 60 Houston employees of Flextronics International USA will be laid off as part of a reduction of the company's work force. In a letter to the Texas Workforce Commission, Flextronics International USA , a subsidiary of electronic manufacturing giant Flextronics International Ltd. of Singapore, said the move is "a result of on going (sic) organizational restructuring efforts." "This was a difficult decision to make and was reached only after analyzing the options available to the company to make the necessary reductions in costs," Flextronics said in the filing. The planned action will affect all employees at Flextronics Computer Texas' site at 6377 Windfern Drive in Houston. The layoffs will be completed soon. Positions include accountants, engineers and technicians. Employees at the firm's 100,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Stafford will not be impacted, and Flextronics will continue to be an employer in the Houston area, according to a company spokeswoman, who declined to be more specific. The Houston operation specializes in custom cable and harness assemblies, electromechanical assemblies and complete system integration, including testing.
