MUELLER WATER PRODUCTS INC.: Birmingham's U.S. Pipe & Foundry LLC will close its Burlington, N.J., ductile iron manufacturing plant, eliminating about 180 jobs. The change in operations is part of the company's efforts to reconfigure its operations to remain competitive with domestic manufacturing. The plant's production will be transferred to other U.S. Pipe manufacturing facilities. However, it will continue to be used as a distribution center for customers in the Northeast. U.S. Pipe also has a manufacturing facility in Union City, Calif. It is a division of Mueller Water Products Inc., which is based in Atlanta and employs 6,600 people.
