GM will lay off about 1,600 salaried employees throughout the company. Company spokesman Tom Wilkinson said Monday the company is notifying the employees they will lose their jobs. The cuts will affect all areas of GM. The GM Powertrain Baltimore Transmission plant in White Marsh employs over 200 hourly workers & 63 salaried personnel. The 1,600 salaried employees to be cut are being notified Monday through Wednesday, Wilkinson said, & most will leave the company immediately. GM started 2009 with 29,650 salaried employees. The company said Feb. 10 that it would cut its salaried work force by 3,400 by the end of 2009 and achieve most of that reduction by May 1.
