Officials with an irrigation equipment manufacturer won't comment on what the state says was a layoff of about 100 workers at a plant in the Platte County city of Lindsay. Officials with Nebraska Workforce Development have confirmed the layoffs earlier this month at Lindsay Corp. About 90 of the cutbacks are characterized as temporary. Ten or so are described as the permanent idling of recently hired workers who were still on probation. A 2009 Nebraska business directory says Omaha-based Lindsay had an estimated work force of 500 workers before the layoffs. Lindsay Corp. designs and manufactures self-propelled center pivot and lateral move irrigation systems.
