The Kmart stores on Huffman Mill Road in Burlington and Bridford Parkway in Greensboro will begin the first round of layoffs that will eventually put 306 people out of work, Gov. Mike Easley's office announced recently. The Burlington store will lay off 159 mainly part-time workers, the Greensboro store 147. The information comes from a notice Kmart filed with the state Department of Commerce, the governor's press released stated. The move is part of a reorganization of Super K stores that would eliminate grocery operations. Both stores will remain open, a Kmart spokesman said.
