The Hawaii Medical Center will lay off 80 employees, the hospital's second job cuts in less than six months. Hawaii Medical Center East, the former St. Francis hospital in Liliha, laid off 89 employees recently, which hospital officials said was needed to streamline its operations. HMC officials said that the job cuts were recommended by a consulting firm they hired to bring the hospital back to profitability.
