H. C. Starck Inc. has told New Jersey labor officials it will lay off 125 people in Bergen County. The Cleveland-based specialty chemicals company said it will close two plants, one in Rutherford and the other in Carlstadt. The Rutherford closure will leave 67 workers jobless, and the Rutherford closure, 58, according to a letter filed with the state Labor Department. The work done at the two factories will be moved to Cleveland "in order to align our manufacturing capacity," the company said.
