GEORGIA-PACIFIC CORPORATION: Georgia-Pacific has curtailed production at its Creedmoor lumber mill and laid off 93 employees. Georgia-Pacific blames the slowdown in the home construction market for the layoffs. Lumber prices across the South have dropped in the past year, especially prices for pine chip-n-saw products such as those produced in Creedmoor. The Creedmoor mill is one of 12 Georgia-Pacific facilities in North Carolina, where the company employs a total of more than 1,700. The Creedmoor plant produces Southern pine dimensional lumber for truss manufacturers, building supply stores and lumber distribution centers.
