Genworth Financial, Inc.:

Genworth Financial is laying off 80 people in Richmond and 47 in Lynchburg. Employees in finance and marketing were told recently that their jobs would be eliminated. The layoffs are the result of a reorganization announced in January. The protection business segment, long-term care and life insurance, was merged with the retirement segment, which includes annuities and institutional accounts. The consolidation resulted in duplicate jobs, mostly in finance and marketing. The company employs 3,100 workers in Virginia, 1,700 in the Richmond area and 1,400 in Lynchburg.
