The Shreveport GM plant once employed more than 2,000 people. It will have fewer than 800 when the plant's entire second shift will be cut, affecting 798 employees, including 715 hourly and 83 salaried. The cut is part of GM's corporate plan to shift from trucks and sport utility vehicles to fuel-efficient cars in the wake of high gas prices. The plant's production lineup includes the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, Hummer H3 and H3T.
