The Tennessean, the state's largest newspaper, plans to cut 67 employees and eliminate 24 vacant positions as part of a 10 percent workforce cut at Gannett Co. Another Gannett-owned newspaper The Jackson Sun also announced recently that 11 full-time positions and two part-time positions would be eliminated. Two vacant positions have been cut. Gannett is the largest newspaper publisher in the United States and owns 85 daily newspapers. The McLean, Va.-based company announced the cuts in October in response to declining revenue.
