Burger King operators shot down the parent company's plan to sell double cheeseburgers for $1 nationwide, but it is still trying to push through a modified plan. According to a memo reviewed by Dow Newswires, its president of global marketing & innovation strategy, said a plan to slash the price of the sandwich to $1 for 3 months, starting later this summer, didn't receive necessary number of votes. Instead, it's putting forth a plan to sell the sandwich at the price for just 6 weeks, as it looks to turn up the heat on its chief competitor, Oak Brook-based McDonald's. A vote on the new measure is due Friday.
