Delphi Corporation:

The Delphi Corp. engineering center at Delphi Flint East will close and consolidate with six other engineering centers, draining hundreds of high-paying engineering jobs away from Genesee County. It's the latest employment blow at Delphi Flint East, which has been steadily shrinking as Delphi, spun off from General Motors in 1999, has been working its way through a financial reorganization in bankruptcy court. Delphi said the Flint engineering facility is one of six in Michigan and one in Illinois that is being consolidated at a site in Auburn Hills, not far from Delphi's headquarters in Troy. The site builds prototype parts and tests them before production, using sophisticated equipment and engine bays. Flint East now has about 1,080 active hourly workers. When Delphi was spun off from GM in 1999, it had 9,000 hourly and salaried workers in Genesee County
