Kansas City-based Dairy Farmers of America Inc. said it is idling a cheese plant in New Mexico and eliminating about 60 jobs. Dairy Farmers of America said the plant in Lovington, N.M. produced 40 million pounds of 40-pound block cheddar cheese annually. Production will be transferred to other DFA plants. DFA said the discontinuation of operations comes after years of repeated efforts to stimulate successful operations, including periodic adjustments to the production schedule and an expansion to help the facility better accommodate increased volume.
