Conway Public Schools will cut about 60 positions before the next term, and certified employees hold about half of those jobs. Of the 29.4 certified positions being cut, 21 are teachers. Thirty others are noncertified employees such as secretaries, custodians and bus drivers. Some of the certified positions are administrative. The 9,002-student district has 1,005 employees, 678 of whom are certified. The superintendent had warned employees to expect staff cutbacks and possibly elimination of some programs due to past deficit spending.
