Citing financial difficulties, Condell Medical Center officials said recently that they will reduce the hospital staff by 80 employees. The positions affected will not include anyone involved in direct patient care such as nurses, said the vice president of business development. The reductions will be in administrative and back-office jobs such as finance, information technology and secretarial positions. The cuts were necessary because of the drop in patient volume since the Libertyville-based hospital and Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Illinois parted ways in a contract dispute last year.
