Clopay Corporation

The slumping U.S. housing industry has continued to roil Clopay Corp. in Mason, where garage door and installations sales are stuck in a "down" mode. The company's parent said in its latest financial report that it will continue to cut jobs, trim marketing activities and consolidate facilities where possible. Griffon Corp. of Jericho, N.Y., also said it has decided to dispose of Clopay's remaining installation operations by the end of 2008, having already shuttered units in several markets. It expects to incur related costs of up to $40 million. Clopay Service Co. currently operates in scattered markets across the country, North Carolina, Alabama, Minnesota and the Southwest, but not in Southwest Ohio or Northern Kentucky. Company officials could not be reached, and it's unclear what impact, if any, exiting that business will have at Clopay's headquarters in Mason.
