Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools

Publication date: 07/28/2008

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will eliminate 331 jobs in an effort to counter an $18 million funding shortfall from the county and uncertainty over state allocations. The cuts will affect approximately 219 school-based jobs and 112 central-office positions. Employees affected by the cuts will have an opportunity to accept reassignments to new jobs or locations within the district. In May, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools froze hiring for most positions and asked administrative personnel to submit recommended budget cuts of at least 8 percent of their proposed local budgets.
