Seventy-eight union employees of Bolton Metal Products, formerly Cerro Metal Products, will be laid off, the company announced recently. The cuts are part of a strategy to implement a new business model at the Bellefonte facility to develop specialized brass products, sizes and alloys. The cuts, both in union employment and some additional staff, will reduce the number of employees at the Bellefonte facility to about 200, down from about 285 currently. Bolton Metals manufactures brass rod, wire and low melt alloys for the plumbing, hardware, valve and fitting, electronics and other industries.
