Ball Corp. said it will close its aluminum beverage can-making plant in Kent, Wash., in the third quarter, putting 111 people out of work. The Broomfield-based company acquired the 28-year-old plant in 1998 when it acquired the metal beverage can assets of Reynolds Metals Co. It operates two production lines that can produce 1.1 billion 12-ounce cans per year. Ball said the equipment in the plant will be redeployed "where the company can earn a better return on those assets."
