BAE Systems Vehicle Armor notified 475 contract workers at its facilities in West Chester Township that it will be eliminating their temporary positions soon. The workers were added over the past year and a half to support the production of MRAP (mine-resistant, ambush protected) vehicles for the U.S. military. The vice president of Vehicle Armor said those contracts are now winding down. BAE is working on a number of other armored vehicles that could lead to additional work in the future, including a lighter-weight, more-mobile version of its MRAP Caiman combat vehicle, dubbed Caiman Light, he said. The company also is exploring opportunities to support programs at BAE sister companies outside the U.S.
