Facing a March deadline to deliver a balanced budget to the Anchorage Assembly, board members unanimously approved a slew of program cuts, job reductions and fee increases to close a $17.9 million gap in the 2007-08 Anchorage School District budget. Some of the approved cuts to balance the budget included increasing class size by 1.5 students per class, eliminating more than 90 jobs and slowing down implementation of the successful Houghton-Mifflin reading program.
