American Cast Iron Pipe Company

A slow housing market is causing American Cast Iron Pipe Co. to lay off 58 employees at its Birmingham plant, the company said. The manufacturer of ductile iron pipe and fittings said the layoffs will be effective soon for the employees, who were informed of the company's decision recently. The Birmingham-based company, which employs several thousand in the area, said it is working with affected workers and their families on job relocation and employee assistance.
