The lack of demand for SUVs, including the H2, is leading to layoffs at AM General. AM General plans to start laying off about 80 workers at its H2 plant. Earlier this summer, the plant announced it would reduce the number of H2s it was producing daily from 52 to 35 after Labor Day because of General Motors Corp. cutbacks. Now, that number is going to be 25. AM General produces the H2 for GM. The H2 was inspired by the Humvee, which is an all-terrain vehicle produced for the military. The H2 plant is currently in the second week of a two-week shutdown because of the production line change.
