GM's Saab Automobile lays off 750 workers in Sweden

Publication date: Mon, 03/16/2009

A spokeswoman for Sweden's Saab Automobile says the loss-making GM unit is laying off 750 employees. A spokeswoman couldn't say where the jobs were being cut, but Swedish news agency TT reports the move will affect workers at Saab's Trollhattan plant in Sweden. Saab went into bankruptcy protection on Feb. 20 in an effort by GM to spin off or sell the unit. The danger of a collapse still hovers over the ailing brand because neither GM nor the Swedish gov't. appears ready to provide enough money to keep it going as a freestanding entity.
