BorgWarner Inc.: Auto parts supplier BorgWarner will cut 16 percent of its North American workforce in the third quarter in response to what it calls a permanent shift in the U.S. auto industry. Job cuts will affect workers in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Infineon Technologies AG: In response to sluggish sales, Infineon, a Munich-based chipmaker, will cut 10 percent of its worldwide workforce. Locations in Germany will be hit hardest. Administration, sales, and R&D jobs are among those to be eliminated.

HBOS plc: HBOS, the UK's largest mortgage lender, will cut as many as 425 jobs and eliminate one of its mortgage brands. UK home prices are falling and the market for new loans is shrinking.

Rambus Inc.: Rambus, a technology licensing company specializing in high-speed memory architectures, will cut 90 jobs in order to reduce costs. The cuts will be global in scope and include both engineering and non-engineering positions.
