GM Canada to Close Almost 250 Dealers

GM's Canadian unit is telling almost 250 dealers they will lose their franchises next year as the auto maker thins dealer ranks to make the remaining outlets more profitable. GM of Canada said it is telling some dealers that their sales & services agreements won't be renewed when they expire in Oct. 2010. At said letters were being sent to 245 of GM CN's 709 dealers. Further consolidation is expected to cut the number of dealerships somewhat beyond that by the end of 2010.
