The 3M Co. announced recently that it will close its plant in Eau Claire and lay off 160 workers. The plant made multilayer circuits used in a number of products. Slow sales in the electronics market and few signs of improvement prompted 3M to close the plant. Competition from Asia has made worse the general slow down in sales of electronics from small computers to hearing aids the plant made parts for, the company said.
