The final numbers aren't in, but it looks like 08 was the 5th consecutive year of declining vehicle thefts. Owners of older-model cars, however, continue to be the most likely to find their car stolen, because the value of the stripped parts can be double the value of the whole car in the used-vehicle market, said the National Insurance Crime Bureau. New vehicles also come with more anti-theft tech. Based on preliminary data from the 08 FBI Uniform Crime Report, auto thefts are likely to drop 13.1% in 08 from 07. That would put total vehicle thefts below the 1M-mark last year, the lowest annual total in over 20 years. The 10 car models most often reported at stolen in 08 were the 94 Honda Accord,1995 Honda Civic,1989 Toyota Camry,1997 Ford F-150 Pickup, 04 Dodge Ram Pickup, 2000 Dodge Caravan,1996 Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee,1994 Acura Integra,1999 Ford Taurus & the 2002 Ford Explorer.
