UAW members at 2 Michigan Ford plants approve contract concessions

A union official says workers at two more Ford Motor Co. factories have approved contract concessions that will help the struggling automaker as it tries to become profitable again. The official said Monday 78% of workers who voted at UAW Local 900 in Wayne, MI, approved the deal. The local reps about 3,900 workers at Ford's MI Truck & Wayne Assembly factories. The official did not want to be identified because the full UAW vote total had not been released. The contract freezes wages & cuts cash bonuses. It also allows payments to a union-run trust for retiree health care to be paid in stock. Voting is to be completed by March 9.
