U.S. Employment Outlook Report Indicates Potential For More Significant Job Growth
Job openings were up in June 2014 with online nationwide job postings increasing by 10.6% month-over-month and up 34.7% compared to the same time last year according to data compiled by Simply Hired for their U.S. Employment Outlook Report.
Nearly all industries and occupations posted gains in the past month with job openings increasing in 17 out of 18 industries in June 2014. Government jobs showed the largest increase, up 24.6%. The one industry seeing a decrease was the non-profit sector, down 18.1%.
21 out of 23 occupation categories experienced growth in job openings in June 2014. Engineers (excluding computer) were up 23.3%, and installation, maintenance and repair worker were up 20.1% month-over-month. Journalists and media workers were down 7.4%, having the largest decline throughout all occupations.
Healthcare remains the industry with greatest job inventory. Nearly one-half of the top posting companies in June 2014 were healthcare-related (approximately 63 company locations). There were also a significant number of job openings at technology companies, financial institutions and consulting firms.
