Training and Career-Development Programs Cited As Major Benefit for Recruitment and Retention
According to a new report released by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), employers offering opportunities for professional and career development have a major advantage for successfully recruiting top talent and retaining employees within their companies.
Approximately 40% of respondents to SHRM’s 2013 Employee Benefits Research Report said offering such opportunities are the number one major factor in recruiting and retaining high-performing employees.
Those benefits include programs that provide cross-training to develop skills not directly related to employees’ current jobs (offered by 44% of respondents), formal mentoring programs (20%), and off-site professional development opportunities (85%).
For the survey, SHRM contacted 518 HR professionals for their opinions on nearly 300 different benefits.
