The February 2014 U.S. Employment Outlook From SimplyHired

Nationwide job openings decreased by 1% in January (2014) compared to December (2013). However, year-over-year job openings increased 28.7% per the February 2014 U.S. Employment Outlook Report complied by job aggregator SimplyHired.

Job openings increased in 5 out of 18 industries in January. The real estate (5.4%) and manufacturing (5.0%) industries experienced the largest gains. Agriculture (-18.2%), hospitality (-6.3%) and automotive (-6.1%) decreased during this period.

9 out of 23 occupations experienced growth in job openings in January. Manufacturing workers (12.9%) experienced the greatest increase month-over-month in January. Educator (-8.6%) and law enforcement (-5/6%) roles faced the largest decline in January, 2014.

Healthcare continues as the industry with the largest number of available jobs. Over 33% of the top job posting companies in January, 2014 were healthcare-related at approximately 50 company locations. There were also a significant number of job openings at academic institutions and in management consulting.

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics is also analyzed for the preparation of this report.
