Slight Uptick In Job Postings In September Per U.S. Employment Outlook
Nationwide job openings increased 1.18% in September according to the tabulation of online job postings complied by SimplyHired for the October 2014 U.S. Employment Outlook report. The September increase follows nationwide increases of 4.52% in August and 1.74% in July.
Nearly every major metro area experienced job growth with job openings increasing in 23 of the 25 largest U.S. metros in September. The largest month-over-month gains were seen in St. Louis (5.66%) and Chicago (4.50%).
15 out of 18 industries experienced month-over-month growth in job openings. Construction led all industries with a 11.96% increase followed by travel at 9.96%. Government experienced a decrease in hiring in September going down 0.68%.
41 out of 54 occupation categories experienced growth is job openings in September with law enforcement officer roles experiencing the largest rise at 18.85% followed by mathematician roles at 9.13%. Journalism and media workers (-12.50%) roles faced the largest decline with both categories falling 12.50%.
