Online Job Postings Increase In 92% Of Largest U.S. Metro Areas Per Report From Simply Hired


Nationwide job openings increased by 1.74% in July, 2014 according to the newly-released U.S. Employment Outlook report compiled by Simply Hired.

Twenty-three of the 25 largest US metros saw an increase in job openings between June and July 2014.  Sacramento, CA (3.58%), Pittsburgh, PA (3.56%) and Tampa & St. Petersburg, FL (3.07%) posted the largest gains; Minneapolis, MN (- 0.05%) and St. Paul, MO (- 1.47%) experienced the only declines.

Job openings increased in 14 out of 18 industries in July 2014, with technology (7.72%), hospitality (7.31%), and retail (6.96%) showing the largest month-over-month gains. Agriculture (-3.37%) and manufacturing (-0.79%) saw decreases during this period.

Most occupation categories (45 out of 54) experienced growth in job openings in July 2014. Psychologists (10.42%) and equipment installation (5.34%) roles experienced the largest amount of growth month-over-month. Firefighters (-6.24%) saw the largest decline in July 2014.
