Number of Job Openings Continue To Grow At A Steady Pace Per Simply Hired U.S. Employment Outlook

In August, job openings were up 0.2% month-over-month and 29.1% year-over-year according to the newly-released U. S. Employment Outlook from SimplyHired.

The nation’s top hiring companies continue to be healthcare-related.  Meanwhile, retail is ramping up for the holiday season with accelerated seasonal hiring. The retail industry grew by 12.1%. Transportation also saw significant gains in job listings (25.8%). In the same period, job listings decreased in Agriculture (-14.3%) and Healthcare (-0.5%).

Job openings increased in 24 out of the 50 major metros in August. The cities experiencing the largest gains included Pittsburgh, PA (12.2%), Austin, TX (6.8%) and Minneapolis, MN (5.5%).

Job openings increased in 16 out of 18 industries in August, with Transportation (25.8%) and Retail (12.1%) showing the largest gains. Agriculture (-14.3%) saw the largest decrease during this period.

Occupations experiencing the largest growth in job openings month-over- month were Personal Care (18.8%) and Legal (18.6%). The occupations with the largest decline month over month were HR and Business operations (-11.3%) and Military (-7.8%).
