Employers relied on direct sourcing and assistance from third party recruiters in 2013 more than at any time in the past ten years according to the newly-released 13th annual CareerXroads Source Of Hire Survey.

50 employers participated in the survey; some with more than 200,000 workers.

Direct Sourcing increased from 6.8% in 2012 to 12.1% in 2013. In 2012 employers reported 3.1% of their hires came from Agency Referrals, and in 2013 the category nearly doubled to 5.9%.

Another piece of data from the CareerXroads survey is regarding the number of jobs being filled by internal and external recruiters.  Jobs filled by new hires rather than from within went from 54% in 2012 to 58.1% in 2013.

One finding from the report regarding LinkedIn is that according to the surveyed companies more hires are being made by posting jobs to LinkedIn than by recruiters searching the profiles and networking with prospective candidates.

As a job board, LinkedIn.com ranked second to Indeed.com as a source of hire, accounting for 20.1% of all hires coming from job boards or about 3.1% of all external hires. Indeed was first with 31.2% of the job board sourced hires, or 4.8% of all external hires.
